Job Overview

The Communications Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and impact of the Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS). This position will be responsible for managing media relations, overseeing social media platforms, and fostering community engagement.  This position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in handling social media platforms, english proficiency, and high interest in public policy. The Communications Officer will assist and work under the direct supervision of the Communications and Outreach Manager.

Key Responsibilities

A. Media Relations

  1. Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets, to help CIPS outreach activities.

  2. Drive the process of writing and create press releases, newsletters, Op-Eds, and other content or narrative to support CIPS’ media relations activities.

  3. Monitor media coverage and respond to media inquiries promptly and professionally.

  4. Coordinate media visits and initiate the assessment on which media is most strategic for CIPS

  5. Stay up to date with the latest information/trends regarding CIPS’ focus areas.

 

B. Social Media Management 

  1. Manage and update CIPS' social media platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram).

  2. Create a monthly content calendar for CIPS’ social media and ensure that they are relevant to the latest trends, aligned with CIPS’ key messages.

  3. Write copies and provide visual briefs to the production team while preparing social media posts.

  4. Monitor and analyze social media analytics regularly and suggest strategic adjustment accordingly.

  5. Engage with CIPS’ social media followers and provide sound response to incoming comments and messages promptly.

  6. Stay up to date with the latest social media trends, including new social media platforms, and suggest strategic adjustment whenever it deems fit.

 

C. Outreach Support

  1. Drive the writing process and/or write a regular CIPS’ newsletter that is aligned with the current and relevant issues to CIPS’ key messages.

  2. Plan and create monthly newsletter calendar while also keep track of important dates (i.e. Hari Pangan Sedunia, Hari Guru, etc.)

  3. Support events execution, especially for managing media invitations, preparing media relations materials, and developing and distributing press releases and doing event coverage by writing live social media posts.

  4. Support CIPS’ outreach activities, such as events, workshops, and conferences, by ensuring the invitations reach the right target audience through mailing lists and/or newsletter.

  5. Update with the latest communications tools (e.g. WhatsApp Communities, WhatsApp Channels, Instagram Broadcast Channel).

 

C. Administrative Tasks

  1. Maintain and monitor CIPS’ newsletter subscribers, including contact cleaning and update.

  2. Maintain accurate records and documentation of CIPS’ media coverage and other engagement and utilize it to adjust or create strategies that will improve CIPS’ outreach effort.

  3. Develop and provide analysis, as well as create reports on print, online, and social media channels, monthly, quarterly, and annually according to the guidelines.

  4. Regularly collaborate with other CIPS units in ensuring the alignment and relevance of what is being communicated through all CIPS communication channels.

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree and/or strong background in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or other related fields.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Indonesian and English.

  • Minimum two years of experience in the field of media, social media, media relations, content creation, and outreach activities.

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital tools, excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • High interest in public policy and social issues.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
